EMERGENCY FLOOD APPEAL FOR PAKISTAN AND BANGLADESH

PAKISTAN FLOOD
- At least 33 million people have been affected by the floods in Pakistan and the situation is deteriorating on a daily basis. More than 1190 have died in devastating floods triggered by the heaviest monsoon rains in a decade. Dangerously high river levels have forced million of people from their homes. Many houses were destroyed or damaged by flood. River levels are forecast to continue rising over the low level areas.
- The floods were caused by heavier than usual monsoon rains and melting glaciers that followed a severe heat wave all of which are linked to climate change. Many families are living under the open sky and there are shortages of clean water, food and medicine. The affected populations are mainly in need of food, water and emergency shelter.
BANGLADESH FLOOD
- At least 5 million people have been affected by the floods in Bangladesh and the situation is deteriorating on a daily basis. nearly 500,000 people are taking shelter in emergency. We have never seen such a terrible flood in Bangladesh greater Sylhet in the 100 years. The whole town is inundated. There is no place left for people to take refuge, a shelter is now more important than aid.
- Dangerously high river levels have forced thousands of people from their homes. River levels are forecast to continue rising over the next few days. Many families are living under the open sky and there are shortages of clean water, food and medicine. We are distributing food in the most affected sites in Bangladesh.
- Many houses were destroyed or damaged. The affected populations are mainly in need of food, water and emergency shelter.
